Tutorial 24 · Connectors in depth: setting up and using each system
What the video says
- A connector is a system in your company that JMAX plugs into: email, the calendar, WhatsApp, the database, the browser or your customer book. They live in the menu, under Management and administration.
- Each card is a connector, with its status and how many capabilities it brings. Right now ten are connected, with two hundred and sixty tools. Test all checks them in one go, and Reload reads them again.
- Opening a card shows its capabilities one by one, in green. Click any of them to switch it off: it turns red and struck through, and JMAX stops offering it to the model. The active box switches off the whole connector, live.
- Connectors that need credentials carry the Settings button. What each one asks for is different, so let's go through the three cases you will run into.
- First case, Google mail and calendar. It asks for the account JMAX manages and the two Google Cloud credentials: the client identifier and the client secret. The secret is stored on your computer and never shown again.
- Second case, a database. It asks for the server, the port, the user, the password and the name of the database. If it runs on this same computer, the server is one two seven dot zero dot zero dot one. JMAX only reads: it never changes your data.
- Look at the password field: it says saved, type to change it. Secrets never travel back to the screen. Leave it empty and the stored one is kept. When you press Save, JMAX reconnects on its own, with no restart.
- Third case, WhatsApp, which is set up with actions instead of fields. Link status tells you whether it is already connected. Link another WhatsApp generates a QR code and, careful, disconnects the current one: that is why it asks you to confirm.
- Your customer book has its own section. Pick the program, EspoCRM, SuiteCRM or Odoo, give it a name, the address and the user, and test the connection before adding it. You can keep several books at the same time.
- When JMAX searches the internet it tries the browsers in this order and keeps the first that answers: Tor to browse without leaving a trace, Brave, and its own browser, which is always available. Move them up or down to change the priority.
- With two hundred and sixty tools, handing the model all of them confuses it. The selector gives it only the ones needed each turn, up to the cap you set here. Leave it on unless you are debugging.
- Type a test request and press See which ones it picks: JMAX shows you the tools it would use, without running anything. And Last used shows the ones from the real last turn. That is how you learn why it chose what it chose.
- Now, how they are used in the chat. Each connector has a shortcut, and here you decide which ones show up and in what order. Switching one off does not disable it: if you type its name, it still works.
- Move the everyday ones to the top and switch off the ones you never use, so the list stays short. Turn all on and Back to factory order bring you back to the starting point.
- In the chat, type a slash and the list appears, one shortcut per connector: slash crm for the customer book, slash whatsapp, slash correo for mail, slash agenda for the calendar, slash memoria for your documents, slash web for the internet.
- When you pick one, the badge says what the conversation is focused on, and JMAX uses only that system's tools. Then ask in your own words: how is the book doing this month, note that I called Marta, move the Acme deal to proposal.
- The shortcut is optional: without it, JMAX decides on its own which system to reach for. Use it when you want to be sure the answer comes from one specific place, and type slash normal to go back to the usual conversation.
